Naturally dyed wool.

As part of the viking re-enactment, there are many conversations about the authenticity of colours, and how those colours could be achieved. There is some information about the colours that would have been achievable in viking times; this is one article outlining these some viking age dyestuffs and mordants.

I decided that it would interesting to see what colours I could achieve through foraging; the aim was to experiment with ‘stuff’ that I could readily find in my garden. Here’s a selection of the colours I got.
The mordant I used was alum unless otherwise stated.
